Understanding your own body shape is the best first step to identifying clothing styles that will fit best and be most naturally flattering to your figure. There are four basic body shapes:
1.The Pear Shape Body Type
The pear shape figure is the most common female form. You can call yourself a pear body type if:
Your upper body is noticeably smaller than your lower body. If you were to gain five pounds, four of them would go to your hips and thighs(creepy but it's kinda true)
Tips for the pear shape body type:
-Play your upper body and give your lower body a slimmer sleeker look by using color on top, wide neck lines, accentuate your waste and wear dark colors on the bottom.
-Because your bottom half is slightly larger than your top, you can wear slightly looser fitting cloths on top with out any problem.
-Blouses with a lot of detailing, tops in all sorts of prints with lighter and brighter colors, or textured fabrics are what you want to look for in your tops. This will help balance your lower half.
-A-line and flared skirts look best on pears. When choosing a dress, choose a dress with an empire waste or a wrap dress which will flow over your hips.
-Straight legged jeans are also a good for a sleek slimmer look. Go for mid-rise dark jeans (the darker the better) and dark pants. This gives the illusion of a slimmer hips and bottom.
-Shoes with a pointed toe will help give the illusion of an elongated figure. Avoid stiletto heels as they will make you look out of proportion, however, sleek shoes with a thinner heel will work better visually.

2.The Apple Shape Body Type
The apple shape figure is unique to the full-figured form. You can call yourself an apple body type if:
Your upper body is noticeably larger than your lower body. Not only that, but if you were to gain five pounds, four of them would go to your waistline.
Tips for the apple shape body type:
-Wrap around tops look best on you, fitted tops also look great, but nothing to tight. Look for tops with v necklines; this will pull the eye away from your shoulders.
-The right bra can make a big difference when it comes to enhancing your figure.
-Look for blouses that have a cinched waist, or belted jackets, this will give the illusion of a smaller waist, and slim down your tummy.
-A-line skirts work really well because they will give you the look of a waist and more of an hourglass figure. Tulip skirts will also look great with your shape.
-Look for jeans that have back pockets with flaps, this will help give some curve to a flatter rear. Lighter washes and/or jeans with fading will add shape to your thighs. Boot-cut and flared legs will give you a longer leaner look.
-Have fun with your shoes! You can wear a chunkier heel, this will actually help balance you upper body. Wedges are a perfect shoe for you. If you are shorter, pointier toed shoes will give the appearance of a longer leaner look.

3.The Full Hourglass Figure
Yes, it's true. An hourglass figure is considered the ideal female form. But who qualifies? You can call yourself an hourglass if:
You're very curvy with a clearly defined waist.If you were to gain five pounds, they would distribute evenly amongst your well proportioned curves (you're so blessed if you sounds like this one!ahhaha)
Tips for the full hourglass figure:
-You want to wear tops that enhance your bust and waist, tops with V necks or scooped necklines will do the trick.
-Halter tops are great on you, as they show off your shapely shoulders. Darker fabrics will help you appear slimmer, however most colors look great on you.
-Pencil skirts work best for you. When looking for skirts look for ¾ length or full length with a long slit or crease in the front. This will make you look taller, thinner and sexier.
-Mid-rise jeans fit well on you, especially if you are carrying some extra weight in the tummy, but low-rise jeans work great for you as well as long as they are not to low.

Your figure is straight up and down,lean and athletic, without a lot of curves. If you were to gain five pounds, they would distribute evenly throughout your frame(you are blessed with slim long arms and slender lengthy legs).
Tips for the rectangle/athletic shape body type:
-When searching for a bra, look for bras that have extra padding and under-wire for fuller more feminine curves.
-Pretty tops with spaghetti straps will draw attention to your breast making them appear larger.
-Skirts that have a dropped waist look great on you. Other skirts that look great include pencil, a-lined, and flared skirts that gather at the waist.
